Highlighted by its spectacular natural territory, Yaiza is protected and has the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches and the Timanfaya National Park. In Yaiza you can also find places of interest such as Salinas de Janubio, La Geria, Los Hervideros and Charco de los Clicos right next to the fishing village of El Golfo.
The municipality of Yaiza has a very rich history, since it was the route chosen by the Norman navigators that arrived at Canary Islands for the first time in 1402, which began the conquest of the archipelago. Yaiza has witnessed major attacks by foreign people and that is why there is the Torre del Águila (Tower of the Eagle), located on the coast of Papagayo, built in 1741 to protect the area of the Rubicon.
The capital is the town of Yaiza. A pleasant and beautified place with exquisite views of the Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains). This villa invites to contemplation. Its urban center maintains the traditional architecture of the island, in which the low white houses and their green portals stand out.
You can visit the Church of Los Remedios, dating from the seventeenth century and the Casa Benito Pérez Armas, cultural center of the municipality. In the north of Yaiza we find another village: Uga, which is famous for having the best " smokehouse" in the world, so do not leave without trying one of its delicacies like smoked salmon.
In Yaiza we find the greenest area of Lanzarote: La Geria, in which the economic engines of tourism and agriculture are coupled. To say La Geria is to say "wine", since it has the largest wine production in Lanzarote. The wineries include the natural valley and is ideal if you want to make a wine route.
A visit in Yaiza would not be complete without seeing the Salinas del Janubio and as a special recommendation, see them at dusk, when the light is reflected in the salt and creates a unique stamp full of colors. A contrast that can be seen after a walk on the black sand of Playa del Janubio.
In Yaiza is also the town of Femés, located in the Massif of Los Ajaches, 450 meters of altitude. From the viewpoint of Femés and down the winding road that ends the village and guides you to the interior of the street of Femés recreate a beautiful landscape with red mountains. Many consider it a deserted area, but you have to be at these points to appreciate the majestic landscape. From there you can see Playa Blanca, Isla de Lobos and Fuerteventura, as well as its neighboring villages Maciot and Las Breñas. If you like hiking, this natural space is for you, you can get to Playa Quemada or up to Papagayo.
There are endless possibilities of places to visit at El Golfo. There is the famous Charco de los Cliclos, a kind of green lake that will surprise you by its proximity to El Golfo beach and that floods the landscape of contrasting colors between the black sand, the stones, the green of its water, the red earth of Mountain and blues of the atlantic. El Golfo, in addition is a town that offers to the tourist restaurants and terraces with views to this special strip of the coast.
Los Hervideros is one of the places of interest that can't be missed. Being in the front row to see the force of the water against the cliffs thanks to the action of the wind and the currents is impressive. And the paths between the stones of the coast create a unique balcony to witness this phenomenon of nature.
Those who come to Lanzarote with the intention of enjoying the beach will not be disappointed in part of the island. Yaiza counts with the small sailor town of Playa Quemada and its coast of callaos (rocks) and black sand. Between its limits, there's also Papagayo beach, that frames the south with a cove badge of the island. It is one of the most visited and it is filled with calm with its crystal clear waters and breathtaking views.
On the south coast of Lanzarote is the town of Playa Blanca, an area that has been formed for tourism with more than 8 kilometers of coast with gastronomic offer and accommodation. Of course, it is one of the tourist destinations par excellence. Also in this tourist nucleus you can visit, to the north of the Lighthouse of Pechiguera, a succession of natural pools called Los Charcones. They are difficult to reach, but upon arrival you will experience a unique relationship with nature and the sea. Highly recommended for the most adventurous.
On the southeastern coast of Lanzarote is this small tourist town, charming and famous for its marina. It is a place mainly destined to the luxury tourism, with its hotels of four and five stars, besides villas and holiday apartments. In the waters you can usually see the sailors or those who enjoy boating. Puerto Calero has an extraordinary shopping area, with the famous "Paseo de la Moda" (Fashion promenade) with shops of great national and international brands. It is a modern place, with a lot of luxury.
