Half submerged in a sea of lava and close to Timanfaya’s National Park, Mancha Blanca Visiting and Interpreting Centre is a welcome centre that provides information and develops interpretative activities for all the visitors to the Park. With a surface of 2,293 square meters, the Centre spreads across the main building and other adjacent structures, giving tourists the opportunity to appreciate the natural resources of the Park.
The center has showrooms where you can learn more about the volcanic phenomenon of Timanfaya. The permanent exhibition of the Visitor Centre of Mancha Blanca is a must see in the Natural Park, with interpretive resources such as backlit panels, models and interactive screens, with which the visitor can know the internal structure of the earth, geodynamics and volcanism . One of the most interesting curiosities is to know how the Canary Islands were created. In the center there is a simulation of a volcanic eruption, in which experiences similar to those experienced by the inhabitants of Lanzarote when the last eruptions.
The structure has an elevated footbridge that allows to make a tour on lava flows that reached the agricultural land during the eruptions of 1730-36. The visit can be done by free or asking for a guided visit.
The audiovisual part is not neglected in the projection room, which has a slideshow of images, acclimated musically with a soundtrack composed specifically for this activity and a full documentary of the Timanfaya National Park. There are two more exhibits on volcanism and life in Timanfaya.
As a complement, the center has a library with full book funds related to the Timanfaya National Park, Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, as well as a Mirador with an unparalleled view.
And if you need a souvenir, some book or handmade craft of the park, you can buy it in the store that is located at the entrance of the main building.
