Arrecife is the capital of Lanzarote. With almost 60 thousand inhabitants, the city of Lanzarote is the commercial and administrative center of the island. It is located to the east and is full of picturesque places to visit. It has an urban beach, "El Reducto" Beach, which in addition to being special for residents, is visited by many tourists who enjoy the view from the gold sand and see the tallest building on the island: the Gran Hotel Arrecife. In Arrecife you get a varied gastronomic offer. From the simplest local dishes and the traditional tapas, to the luxury restaurants, some included in the Michelin guide. In Arrecife is much of the historic center of the island and in its maritime strip, great patrimonies as are the bridge of the balls, the Castle of San Gabriel and the Castle of San José.
Another great attraction is the Charco de San Ginés, while walking along its banks and the vicinity of the church that bears the same name, you can find features of the fishing village with its characteristic narrow streets and white walls. The Charco is an entrance of sea water that has the striking effect of varying according to the tide, which moves the colorful fishing boats located in its waters. In August, the "San Gines Festival" is celebrated, which attracts the attention of locals and tourists. Normally there're performances, competitions and dances throughout Arrecife, but especially around the Charco de San Gines. Arrecife is a population of low height, since it is forbidden to construct very high buildings, being the highest the Arrecife Gran Hotel of 17 floors, right next to El Reducto beach and in the main tourist route of Arrecife. The top of this buildig is a great place to enjoy the view.
