Are you passionate about travel and photography? Then, there's a great excursion for you that can take you through the most impressive corners of Lanzarote and you will see more than the tourist sites. Get out of the traveling routine and enjoy Photo Safari Lanzarote, and dare to discover the island through the lens of your camera. Sounds great, right? As our colleague Virginia had the opportunity to do this tour in the north of Lanzarote we tell you all about this unique experience.
Tour of the North of Lanzarote
The photographic adventure begins in Arrecife, when the team of Photo Safari Lanzarote collect me along with fellow photography enthusiasts to discover the northern route of Lanzarote.
North Lanzarote Photo Safari starts with the breathtaking view of Barco Telamon, also known as the "Old Gentleman". A shipwreck on the coast of Lanzarote with a curious story and that certainly it has become a reference point between Arrecife and Costa Teguise.
The day was overcast, the clouds broke with the bright blue summer sky, but we still enjoyed the photo tour. Each of the members sought the best way to capture the grandeur of Telamon, with a cloudy background. We also took the advice of Antonina and Alex that as professional photographers, gave us tips to improve our pictures.
The guys from Photo Safari have several excursions, but the North Tour is one of the most memorable. We continue the journey to the village of Arrieta in Haría, where among the picturesque and traditional white houses, stands a structure that resembles a "dollhouse". The famous "Casa China" (Chinese house) is next to the pier in Arrieta, decorating the northern coast of Lanzarote with its peculiar structure.
"La Juanita"
"La Juanita", as it is also called, was built at the request of Juan de León Perdomo, who commanded to build the "Chalet de Arrieta" in 1920, especially for his daughter Juana de León German, who was sick with TB, although she eventually died. This story leaves a place that is photographed by all who approach the fishing village and it's a part of northern Lanzarote postcards. We were lucky that the sun appeared for a few moments to highlight the color of the Red House in contrast to the Atlantic blue.
The tour continues north of Lanzarote, on the same road that leads to Órzola and passes through the tourist centers Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes, but with a stop tbat goes unnoticed for many. Beach Caletón Blanco. The white sand contrasts with volcanic pebbles that can be seen in strange shapes created by visitors with messages or initials. Caletón Blanco is a perfect place to take the postcard picture of the paradisiacal beaches of the island.
Spontaneous photos are usually the most fun. You not want to miss this part of the tour. And if you want to enjoy a little more, take off your shoes and walk barefoot on the fine white sand while searching for the best place to take the perfect picture.
Discovering memorable places
Most tourist sites can take a new perspective if you see it from the right place. That's what happened with the Mirador del Rio, although we made a stop at this point, from where you can contemplate La Graciosa and the rest of the Chinijo Archipelago, we went a little further south to discover a viewpoint from where we appreciate the beauty of Risco de Famara and the stunning coastline of Caleta de Famara.
Following the northern route, with many curves in the less traveled roads, we pass Haria, one of the characteristic villages of Lanzarote. Traditional white houses and the valley of palm trees adorn the way to the Mirador de Haria, where you can see the town and draw in your mind the silhouette of a witch. It takes some imagination, but certainly with a little help you will see it.
The Mirador de Haria is very windy and with lower temperature, because of its height, so it is advisable to wear a jacket or a coat. And if you forget it, Antonina and Alex always have some more in the van for everyone who needs it.
We continue on the Mountain heights to "El Bosquecillo". A perfect place to finish this fantastic photographic tour.
From El Bosquecillo you can see the west coast of Lanzarote, Caleta de Famara, the Risco de Famara and part of Chinijo Archipelago. You can't do anything but marvel at the views from this privileged balcony more than 500 meters above sea level.
