May is a month of festivities and sports. And we can notice it this weekend that has with one of the most important sporting events on the island, the Ironman Lanzarote. In addition, the Canary celebrations begin, because it approaches the Canary Islands Day. Of course, here we tell you all about the best events and things to do this weekend in Lanzarote.

1. Fiestas de Santa Rita 2016 (Tao)
Santa Rita festivities are held in Tao and today at 7:30 pm there will be the performance of puppeteers by Samuel Espinosa Martin. Next, Zumba Master class, at 8:30 pm, ending with charity raffle for the Children's Association "Creciendo Yaiza".
At 10:00 it will be the Popular Barbecue.
Tomorrow, at 9:00 pm it will be the Grand Play-Back of the village artists of Tao. And at 11:00 pm the Guateque with the greatest hits of the 70s and 80s.
For Sunday May 22 at 1:00 pm the Mass is celebrated in honor of Santa Rita and the program ends with the Theatre at 8:00 pm.
2. Fiestas de Montaña Blanca
The festivities in honor of "María Auxiliadora" in Montaña Blanca 2016 have a full program of activities for this weekend.
Friday 20
6:00 pm. Sock puppets Workshop, by Samuel Espinosa..
9:00 pm. Folkloric Memorial Domingo Rocío", with performances by the Municipal School of Folklore, the Group Folkloric Peña and La Parranda P'al Porrón.
Saturday 21
11:00am to 2:00 pm. Students Reunion "Yesterday and Today" Montaña CEIP.
12:00 pm. Water Party.
6:30 pm. Books presentation: "Ámame sin miedo" (Love me without fear) by Monica Maria Delgado Ortega (Marie Delacroix) and "Bella al desnudo y desnudando a la bestia" (Naked beauty and baring the beas), by Raquel Belmonte (Rachel Beis).
9:00 pm. Play Back Adult. Next Verbena with Atlantis Swing Quartet and Oasis Duo, at the Square.
Sunday 22
11:00 am - 2:00 pm. Children's activities, balance circuit - bike, children's corner, games, street games.
6:00 pm. Children's Playback . At the end of the fault Drawing Competition III.
3. Ironman Lanzarote 2016
This Saturday is the twenty-fifth edition of the Ironman Lanzarote 2016. There will be over 1900 athletes from 50 countries. This race is considered by many to be one of the toughest IRONMAN events in the world with amazing, breath-taking views, warm and usually windy weather. It will start at 7:00 am in Puerto del Carmen with an amazing route, with a 3.8k Swim in Playa Grande (2 laps),a 180km bike ride around the mountainous volcanic island and finishing with a 42.2k run along the sea to the finish line in Puerto del Carmen.
IRONKIDS Lanzarote 2016 Ironman
Ironman Lanzarote organization also has a special edition for children, Lanzarote IronKids 2016. The Aquathlon (Race-Swimming-race) aimed at children and young people (7-17 years) will be today, with the first departure at 4:30 pmin Puerto del Carmen.
4. “Hablemos de la Biosfera”
Today there's a talk called "Let's talk about the Biosphere", an initiative of the Office of the Biosphere Reserve of the Lanzarote goverment. This talk, that will be at 6:30 pm in the Aula Magna de la Uned, is celebrated to create a panel discussion and reflection. Juan Mariano Camarillo, Physical geography doctor of the University of Seville, will participate on this talk that's under the theme "Towards an open science: an example for data access and citizen awareness of global climate".
5. Recording of the TV Program TVE Tenderete
On Friday May 20 at the Plaza de la Iglesia de Guatiza at 9:00 pm there will be the Recording of TVE (Spanish tv) program "Tenderete". Public entrance at 8:30 pm.
The Folkloric group Guanapay will be there, among Benito Cabrera and Pedro Guerra.
6. Dance: "FREE FALL". Company Sharon Fridman
This Saturday, at 9:00 pm, the play "Free Fall" will be at Jameos del Agua, by the company runned by the dancer and choreographer Sharon Fridman, with a special meaning, because this play has the participation of six professional dancers and 20 amateur dancers who fulfill their dream to perform contemporary dance in a unique setting like the Jameos del Agua auditorium .
7. Free concert: Cuartel General del Mando de Canarias (Headquarters Canary Islands)
Music Unit from Command Headquarters Canary Islands offer on Sunday May 22 a free concert at the Municipal Theater of Tias at 12:00 pm. Admission is free until full capacity. A total of 30 military musicians, under the direction of Captain Miguel Angel Mateo, will perform songs among "Campanas de la Victoria" march, the pasodoble "Constellations" and a selection of Zarzuela.
8. Seniors Dance
Yaiza City Council organized this Friday at 8:00 pm a Seniors Dance. The fun at this party at the "local de mayores de Yaiza" will be guide by José Domingo. It costs 5 euros.
9. Galician Literature Day
the Galician Literature Day is celebrated this weekend in Playa Blanca. Tomorrow, since noon, there will be the Fair opening tand tasting of Galician cuisine. And at 9:00 pm the Non Trubada will perform.
The activity continues on Sunday 22 with a new musical performance: Gaiteros Casa Galicia from Gran Canaria, in the Plaza del Carmen at 1:00 pm.
