On Monday May 30th is “Canary Islands Day” and this weekend is all about celebrating. Traditions, festivities, music, tapas and traditional costumes is a little of what you can see this weekend on the streets of every canary island. Lanzarote will celebrate from La Graciosa to Yaiza, and of course, in HolaLanzarote we tell you about the things you can do this weekend in Lanzarote, and Monday that is the official Canary Islands’ Day.
Besides the canary party, there are many events like sports, music and children's activities so you can choose what you want to do this weekend. Keep reading and don’t miss anything...
1. Music: INSTITUTIONAL ACT- CANARY ISLANDS’ DAY. Toñín Corujo
This Friday May 27th it will be the Institutional Act on the occasion of the Day of the Canary Islands. The act will be at 9:00 pm in the Jameos del Agua auditorium. In addition, there will be a musical show called “Amanecer de un Juego” (Dawn of a game), by Toñin Corujo.
2. Dentadura POSRISA and Kike Pérez EL SEVILLA
Humorist Kike Perez, aka “El Sevilla”, will perform this Friday with the show " Reflexiones del Hombre Lengua” (Reflections of Man Language). The act will be at 9:00 pm in the Municipal Theatre of Tias. Tickets are priced at 15 euros.
3. Concert Timplefonías: “Cuando el timple sueña al mundo”
Adrián Niz, José Vicente Pérez and Alexis Lemes, Three musicians from Lanzarote will present this Friday the concert “Timplefonías”: " Cuando el timple sueña al mundo “ (When the timple dreams of the world) in the Municipal Theater of San Bartolome at 8:30 pm.
4. Copa TRAIL: V Vertical Montaña Blanca
The V Vertical White Mountain will begin Saturday at 9:00 am. The test is integrated into the circuit of the II Cup Mountain Racing Lanzarote 2016 and coincides with the María Auxiliadora festivities.
3 categories distances:
Cuartillo 6 km for walkers and runners.
Almud 11 Km, for trail runners, short, quick and very upright.
26 kilometers, for runners and walkers.
5. Meet Minion and Elsa from Frozen at the Biosfera Plaza
Meet Minion and Elsa from Frozen this Saturday May 28th at the Biosphere Plaza Shopping Centre at 5:30 pm
The kids will have the chance to meet their favorite characters and to enjoy musical games, giant balls and balloon twisting.
6. Lanzarote’s Classical Orchestra Concert. Hamelin’s Folk Trío, en Casa Ajei
As part of the programming of the Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote, this Saturday Hamelin's Folk Trio concert takes place at 8:30 pm in the Ajei House. General admission tickets are priced at 12 €.
The performance will be conducted by professors Francisco Garcia Castro, Héctor González Gómez and Fernando García González.
7. Swimming across El Jablillo
The beach "El Jablillo" Costa Teguise will receive this Sunday the Open Water Cup at 10:00 am. Distances by category are: 2000 meters for Children, juniors and masters, 800 meters Alevines and initiation and 400 meters Benjamins.
8. Concert: Malú
Malu will be on Sunday May 29th at 9:30 pm in the Agapito Reyes Viera Stadium, with the tour and presentation of her new album "Caos” (Chaos). Tickets are on sale online at entrees.es and they are priced at 24 € General Admission and 36 € VIP.
9. Día de Canarias Tinajo 2016
Tinajo will celebrate the Canary Island’s Day this Sunday May 29th and Monday May 30th. There will be exhibitions, local craft, Gastronomical products from the Canary Islands, Traditional Sports, Music, games and a lot more.
10. Día de Canarias Tías 2016
Puerto del Carmen will have a very busy weekend for the Canary Island’s Day celebrations:
Saturday, May 28th
10:00 am. Walk from Puerto del Carmen to Puerto Calero. Return by boat and lunch in the terrace of "El Fondeadero". Afterwards, home made desserts contest and "parranda" (group of musicians playing and singing popular Canarian songs).
Fee: €10.
Sunday, May 29th
I Folklore Festival of La Tiñosa.
Varadero Squeare of Puerto del Carmen (By the Harbour).
12:00 pm. Opening.
12:15 pm: Musical performance by Gabriel García, "timple" player (A timple is a typical Canarian instrument).
1:00 pm. Performance by the Folklore Group "Gaida".
2:00 pm: Performance by the Musical group "Guágaro".
5:30 pm: Performance by the Musical group "El Pavón".
7:30 pm: Performance by Los Sabandeños.
9:00 pm: Closing with Canarian ambient music.
Monday, May 30th.
12:00 pm: Opening and onwards Lucha Canaria (Canarian Wrestling) between the Seniors teams of Club de Lucha Unión SUr Tías and Club de Lucha Guadarfía Arrecife.
1:00 pm: "Jolateros" Race in the area of El Poril (jolateros: home made little boats).
1:30 pm: "Chalanas" Race in the area of El Poril (Chalana: type of barge).
2:00 pm: Popular BBQ with bogas (fish), "roscas" (type of hard bread rings), cheese and wine of local produce, in collaboration with the Tiñosa Fishermen's Association and onwards on the Varadero Squeare. Children's games: Sack race, Egg-and-Spoon Race, Musical chairs...
Recommendation: Come dressed with the typical Canarian clothes. Raffle between participants in Canarian costume.
11. Día de Canarias 2016 Villa de Teguise
Villa de Teguise and La Graciosa will also celebrate the Canary Islands’ Day with traditional music groups, local markets and poetry readings.
12. Día de Canarias 2016 Haría
Haría has a full program for the the Canary Islands’ Day.
This Saturday will be the Craft market, also the craft exhibition at Haria Squeare. There will be traditional sports like “Campeonato de Bola” for seniors and “Gofio” testings. Sunday the party will continue after mass and the salt carpet creation.
Monday there will be workshop, sports, traditional games for children, and the Tapas fair in Haría, where you can taste local tapas for €1.
Also, you will enjoy the musical performance with Toñín Corujo, Yarel Hernández, Israel Curbelo and Toni Cantero.
13. Feria de las Tapas. Día de Canarias 2016 Arrecife
On Saturday Arrecife will have the traditional Tapas fair. More than 25 bars and restaurants of the town, in addition to several wineries, cheese shops and candy stores will be at the Fairground for a new edition of this food fair. Tapas for only €1.
14. Día de Canarias San Bartolomé 2016
This Sunday there will be events in Playa Honda for the Canary Islands Day. There will be children's activities, exhibition of Canarian wrestling, typical food cooking and tasting, exhibition of traditional costumes and sports.
From noon there will also be live music.
The acts will continue Monday, May 30th, in San Bartolomé, with children’s workshops, exhibitions, tastings and music.
15. Carpets of salt in San Bartolomé
San Bartolome will have on Saturday, May 28, from 10:00 am the traditional making of carpets of salt, which will take place on the streets Párroco San Martín, San Simón and Plaza León y Castillo.
16. Día de Canarias Yaiza 2016
From Saturday 28 May to Monday 30 Uga will have the Cattle Show San Isidro Labrador, with workshops, exhibitions, camel ride, guided tours, tenderete..

17. Blas Martínez & José Artiles Concert
On Friday May 27th at 9:00 pm will be the concert of Blas Martinez and Jose Artiles, a voice and piano recital at the Convent of Santo Domingo in the town of Teguise. un recital de voz y piano en el Convento de Santo Domingo en la Villa de Teguise. Tickets are priced at €10 and are on sale now at the Department of Culture of Teguise and at the box office.

"Canary Islands Day" is celebrated annually to commemorate the anniversary of the first session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, after the Canary Island's autonomous status was granted in 1983.
