1 Carnival
Carnival in Playa Blanca 2016
From Friday March 4th until Sunday 6 March the Carnival is celebrated in Playa Blanca. The celebration begins at 8:30 pm with the Grand Drag queen Gala, with performances of the best Drags of the Canary Islands and the Comparsa Los Yaiseros in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. Del Carmen. Then you can party with the “Carnival Verbena” with orchestras El Combo Dominicano from Gran Canaria and Bomb Group with his orchestra of Fuerteventura in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. Del Carmen. Saturday, March 5yh, at noon, there will be a very doggy show. It’s the CANnival 2016 in Playa Blanca. “Huella a Huella” Association and the City of Yaiza organize this parade of dogs for adoption. The goal is to get them families. There will also be a canine costume contest with prizes. Registration costs 3 € and it will be the same day. At 6:00 pm on Saturday there will be the Grand Carnival Coso, with the participation of groups, floats and masks. Participating groups will leave from nearby Playa Flamingo, then passing by the Avenida De Canarias, Calle El Varadero, Avenida De Papagayo to reach the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. Del Carmen. Then it will the Carnival festival with the orchestras El Combo Dominicano from Gran Canaria and Grupo Bomba with his orchestra of Fuerteventura in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. Del Carmen. On Sunday March 6 the kids will enjoy from 10:30 am in the Children's Carnival, with the show “Vivan los niños en Carnaval” by the magician Jose Angel and children's show by the Association Creciendo Yaiza in the Plaza de Ntra. Sra. del Carmen. At 1:30 pm, Carnival Day will be celebrated with performances by the orchestras Tamarindos from Gran Canaria and Grupo Bomba from Fuerteventura and performance of versions groups By The Face from Gran Canaria and Inerxia fromLanzarote in the Plaza de Ntra. Ms. del Carmen.
Carnival in La Graciosa 2016
If you don’t go to the south of Lanzarote, you can celebrate carnaval in the eight island. This weekend it’s the Carnaval en La Graciosa, from Friday 4 to Sunday 6. The Carnival in La Graciosa will start tomorrow, Friday, at 6:00 pm, with the announcing parade, then the queen election, and the children’s election as well. There will be Costume contest for the pets and snacks, all of this on the esplanade of the dock. At 11:00 pm there will be a dance with Sintonía Show and Dj Furre, also Adult Costume Contest (singles and couples). Saturday, march 5th, the group’s performances will start on the dock’s esplanade at noon. The Carnival Coso Carnival will begin at 6:00 pm. At 9:00pm, Emisora Clandestina will give a concert, follow by the music of Nueva Estela and Dj Furre. The traditional burial of the sardine, will be at 6:00 pm on Sunday, leaving from the esplanade of the dock and then in the same place the “asadero”.
2. Theater: “LA BATALLA”. Burka Teatro
Hoy jueves, a las 21:00 horas, el Teatro Insular de Lanzarote recibe la obra “La Batalla”, de la compañía canaria Burka Teatro. Un espectáculo en el que es protagonista, Today, thursday, at 9:00 pm, the Teatro Insular de Lanzarote receives the play "La Batalla” (The Battle), by the Canary company Burka Teatro. “La Batalla” is a text written and directed by Aranza Coello, sharing the stage with Irene Maquieira and Pilar Duque. It addresses the story of a woman growing up in America and, emigrated in the 50s to the Canary islands postwar while her husband, islander, returns to America, where they met. Her granddaughter, almost 70 years after that trip, needs to recompose the past to confront the present. As in a game of mirrors, they dialogue the granddaughter, the image she has of her grandmother and Homer's Penelope. Contemporary dance inhabits these emotional spaces, fusing word and movement to shape this story reconstructed with questions. Tickets are priced at 10 euros and the play lasts 80 minutes.
3. Concert among Friends. Classical Orchestra of Lanzarote
Members and supporters of the Classical Orchestra Association of Lanzarote, are invited this Friday, March 4, at 8:00 pm on a date with music. A concert will be offered by Piano, Cello, Violin, Flute and Clarinet with Javier Díaz, Ayoze Rodríguez, María Larumbe, Rocío Gómez and Sara Sánchez. Concert among Friends (Concierto entre amigos), is a proposal that parts of the Friends of the OCL in wanting to offer members and supporters of the OCL a meeting where besides enjoying a concert with professional musicians, report on activities in the past year, and which they are scheduled for this year 2016. At the end of the evening, there will be an aperitif and wine. Admission is free.
4.Family Musical: “ALADDIN”
Aladdin and Genie entanglement is a magical musical for the whole family. You will see the play as never before. This play is brought by the company Unahoramenos Producciones. It’s a play with 70 minutes full of original songs, acrobatics and effects, during which we will see the adventures and entanglements of genie, Aladdin, Princess Laila and the evil Harufa. You can enjoy this show at the Teatro Insular of Lanzarote on Saturday March 5th at 6:00 pm.
5.Solidary Bingo Solidario in favor of the Canary Islands Asperger Association
The island Asperger Association has organized a “Bingo Solidario” in the Grand Hotel in Arrecife to celebrate the International Day for Asperger. The charity event was originally planned for Feb. 18, but coincided with the First National Congress on Asperger Syndrome hold in Gran Canaria. The solidary Bingo will take place on Saturday March 5 at 18 am at the Grand Hotel in Arrecife. The donation is 5 € and will include 5 cards and snacks.
6. Acts for the International Women’s Day. ASC Mararia
The Mararía Association presents a series of events for this month, in commemoration of International Women's Day. Friday at 16:00 pm there will be a Meeting of Women (Mararía) at the Real Club Nautico. Likewise, on Monday, at 7:30 pm in Room Cicca, there will be a talk, entitled "Gender Violence, the judicial response", with the participation of Judge Gloria Poyatos and former Prosecutor and Judge emeritus of the Supreme Court José Antonio Martin Pallin. In addition, from 1 to 31 March, violet ties will be placed in institutions.
7.Beach Cleaning in Playa de Famara
“Famara Limpia” and COUP associations organized a beach clean on Saturday March 5th, from 11:00 amuntil 1:00 pm. The meeting point is next to the former Lifeguard house. The idea is to make the Famara Beach cleaning an act as routine as the cleaning of your house. This beach gets a lot of plastic because its form and orientation. Let's help keep our beaches clean. This activity takes place on the first Saturday of each month.
8.“La frase más larga que jamás te han dicho” by Rafael Hernández
This Friday, March 4, the book “La frase más larga que jamás te han dicho” (The longest sentence you have ever been told) will be officially presented, by the local writer Rafael Hernandez. The presentation of the poetry collection will be at 8:00 pm Friday at the Municipal Library of Teguise.
9. II Cronoescalada Nocturna Valle Palomo MTB 2016
As part of the II Mountain Bike Lanzarote Cup, the calendar starts with Palomo Valley II MTB time trial Night 2016 on Saturday March 5th. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy the rise in the Valley Palomo at night fighting against the clock.
10. For the Kids!
Free workshops for kids (3 to 10 years old) CC El Pueblo
During four Saturdays, there will be workshops for children aged 3 to 10 years in CC El Pueblo, at 5:00 pm in the square of La Fuente coffee shop. This Saturday corresponds to the second workshop on sewing and painting toys.
Kids workshop: ¿Dónde estás Caracol? (Where are you Snail?) Playa Blanca
Friday March 4, at 5:00 pm, there will be a workshop at the Library of Playa Blanca, aimed at children aged 7 to 14 years, called "¿Dónde estás Caracol?” (Where are you Snail?). Kids Workshop: “Viajando con la escritura” Yaiza
Today and tomorrow, children 7 to 14 years old, will have the opportunity to travel with writing. The workshop called "Viajando con la escritura” (Traveling with writing) will be today at 4:30 pm in the House Benito Pérez Armas in Yaiza and at 6:15 pm in the Cultural Center Femés Partner, and tomorrow, Friday March 4, to 6:30 pm, it will be in the Socio Cultural Center of Las Breñas. The workshop will be taught by Pepa Gonzalez Diaz.
Storyteller: “Manfre, el murciélago que escuchó su corazón” (Manfre, the bat that heard his heart)”
Do you want to know the history of a bat that follows his heart? For this Saturday, March 5, at 7:00 pm, you can enjoy the storyteller about Manfre’s history. This activity for children will be on the second floor of Biosfera Plaza Shopping Centre in Puerto del Carmen. There will be candy popcorn, for free.
